Dr Klatz discussed his concerns over the use of LDL levels as indicators of cardiac events. Recommended levels have dropped from 150 to 100, and already a further drop is proposed to a level of 70. These levels indicate who will need to be taking preventative drugs. There is little evidence to suggest that lower LDL levels are more protective, and Dr Klatz believes that Homocysteine levels should be used as indicators instead. Are the economic factors of putting an extra 5 million people on drugs clouding judgement?
