First Masters Program in Anti-Aging Medicine
An Indonesian university has won the accolade of being the first in the world to offer a Masters program in anti-aging medicine.
According to Professor Wimpie Pangkahila, chairman of the program at the Udayana University in Bali, "The anti-aging medicine [Masters] program, which was started in 2007, is noted as the first in the world by the chairman and founder of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, Dr. Robert Goldman."
The American Board of Anti-Aging/Regenerative Medicine (ABAARM) Clinical Training Course (ACTC) covers the basic sciences of a medical postgraduate program as well as all anti-aging medicine subjects ie, basics of anti-aging medicine, biomolecular, genetics, sports medicine, nutrition, endocrinology and medical aesthetics, said Wimpie during an interview.
The ACTC is a one-year certification program of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine for the clinical practice of anti-aging medicine, said Dr. Selvaraj Y Subramaniam during the same interview.
Selvaraj is one of three Malaysian doctors, including Dato' Dr. S. Harnam and Dr. Anandan Subramaniam, who have been selected to teach anti-aging clinical medicine at Udayana University.
The ACTC program is also conducted in Singapore and plans are underway to introduce it to other Asian countries soon, said Wimpie.
Udayana University, together with the Society of Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine, Malaysia (SAAAMM), is promoting the ACTC in Malaysia. The university is an accredited government learning institution. It has 12 graduate faculties and offers 15 Masters and three PhD programs, said Wimpie.
