When you think of making a first aid box essential oils may not be the first thing that comes to mind, however they may come in more handy than you may think. These concentrated plant extracts do more than smell lovely, they have a rather long history of being used for their medicinal and therapeutic properties for a variety of purposes.

Lavender essential oil can help to promote healing processes; the soothing qualities can help to alleviate minor sunburns, wounds, and skin issues. When using this volatile essential oil topically it is important to dilute it in a neutral carrier oil which will also improve skin absorption. Tea tree oil can also help treat minor cuts and scrapes.

Peppermint oil can help with nausea and other digestive issues to promote proper digestion and relief from gastrointestinal problems. One drop of this essential oil to a warm glass of water or cup of calming tea can help to relieve some of the symptoms. Alternatively oregano oil can also help to alleviate inflammation and gastrointestinal issues as well.

Clove essential oil has sleep inducing properties, chamomile and lavender essential oils can also help to promote a calm sleep. One drop of chamomile oil to a hot cup of tea will help to soothe nerves, and a few drops of lavender oil to a pillow will provide a fragrant aroma that will last for days which can have a calming effect on the body.

Tea tree oil and peppermint oil with water can be used as a spray to keep away mosquitoes and pesky bugs from an area such as ants, spiders, and mice. You can find some alleviation from an area affected by an insect bite with a little diluted chamomile or lavender essential oils.

Clove oil can help to alleviate an aching tooth due to its analgesic properties that will temporarily numb the nerves in your mouth until it is properly treated. Be sure to use this potent oil sparingly, adverse reactions may occur if used for prolonged periods of time.

There are many essential oils worth looking into, these were just a few of the more common essential oils that would serve any first aid box well as temporary assistance.
