What is Percocet?
Percocet contains a combination of acetaminophen and oxycodone. Oxycodone is an opioid analgesic. An opioid is sometimes called a drug. Acetaminophen is a less potent analgesic that increases the effects of oxycodone.
Percocet is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.
Percocet may also be used for purposes not listed in this manual.
Important information
You should not use Percocet if you have recently consumed alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers, or other drugs.
This medicine may slow down or stop your breathing, and may be addictive. Use only the prescribed dose and swallow the pill whole to avoid a potentially lethal dose. Never pass Percocet with another person.

Before taking this medicine
You should not use Percocet if you are allergic to acetaminophen (tylenol) or oxycodone, or if:
You have severe asthma or breathing problems;
You have a blockage in your stomach or intestines, including paralytic ileus; or
You have recently used alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers, or other drugs.
Some medicines can interact with oxycodone and cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome. Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking medications for depression, mental illness, Parkinson’s disease, migraine headaches, serious infections, or prevention of nausea and vomiting. Ask your doctor before making any changes in how and when you are taking the medicine.
To make sure Percocet is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
Any type of breathing problem or lung disease;
Liver disease, cirrhosis, or if you drink alcohol daily;
A history of drug abuse, alcohol dependence, or mental illness;
Kidney disease, urination problems;
Problems with your gallbladder, pancreas, thyroid or adrenal glands;
A history of head injury, brain tumor, or seizures; or
If you are using a sedative, such as Valium (diazepam, alprazolam, lorazepam, ativan, klonopin, restoril, tranxin, verse, xanak, etc.).
Percocet is likely to cause breathing problems in older people and people who are seriously ill, malnourished, or otherwise weakened.
If you use oxycodone during pregnancy, your child may become addicted to the drug. This can cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in a child after birth. Addictive babies may need to be treated for a few weeks. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
Acetaminophen and oxycodone can pass into breast milk and can harm a baby. You should not breastfeed while using this medication.
