More than Just Testosterone for the Aging Male

When we measure a male's total and free testosterone, identifying he is measuring low and supplement with a prescription of testosterone have we provided him with complete and comprehensive care relative to his steroidal hormone needs.

Well an article published in 2010 points that DHEA testing and supplementation can have an independent role in mortality and quality of life as seen below. Treating upstream in the hormone pathway whether it be DHEA or pregnenolone when clinically indicated can complete a successful treatment course, as we know. Here is some evidence.

MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:
All-cause and CVD mortality by serum DHEA(-S) levels.
The association between low DHEA-S and CVD death remained after adjustment for C-reactive protein and circulating estradiol and testosterone levels.

CONCLUSIONS:
Low serum levels of DHEA(-S) predict death from all causes, CVD, and ischemic heart disease in older men.
