“Oregon U. scientists make Embryonic Stem Cells via Nuclear Transfer;” data presented prove - - as predicted by myself at A4M Congress 2010 - - that this method is FAR superior to iPS for making individual-specific ESCs.
A key in all this is to avoid religious arguments. Using animal egg cells for the nuclear transfer is the way to go, AND FOR TWO REASONS:
1) As shown by several research groups, transferring an individual's DNA into a denucleated animal egg cell results - after triggered mitosis - in fully compatible Embryonic SCs; confirmed by DNA analysis.
2) Costs of human egg cells is about $ 10,000 for 3 eggs. Animal egg cells cost around $ 3.oo.
