Canada Launches Internet Cannabis Shopping for Chronically Ill

Medical marijuana campaigners in Canada have celebrated a recent legal victory by launching an Internet site offering home delivery of the drug to the sick. The Marijuana Party Foundation launched www.marijuanahomedelivery.ca after a Superior Court Judge halted a drug-trafficking trial of two volunteers from the Compassion Club of Montreal - a group that helps seriously ill people obtain marijuana for medical reasons. The site sells the "highest quality therapeutic cannabis" with a THC content of 8% or more, in two or ten gram packages costing C$30 ($19) and C$120 ($77) respectively. In order to be eligible to buy the drugs patients have to prove that they are Canadian citizens aged 18 and over, as well as providing a doctor's diagnosis of an illness that can be treated or alleviated with marijuana. Canadians suffering from diseases such as multiple sclerosis and AIDS are able to apply to become exempt from laws that normally ban the possession and use of marijuana.
