The Icelandic biotech company decode Genetics Inc., says that it has found a gene that predisposes people to being fat or thin. The discovery was made after deCODE analysed the genes of more than 1000 women. One form of the gene was found to predispose the women to obesity, while another form predisposes to thinness.

It is hoped that the discovery will help scientists in their quest to develop anti-obesity drugs.
