Robotic Hand Restores Independence to Italian Man

Thanks to the LifeHand Project, at the Università "Campus Bio-medico" Roma (Italy), an Italian man successfully is linked to a robotic hand and is able to control it with his thoughts.

An Italian man who lost his left forearm was successfully linked to a robotic hand, enabling him to feel sensations in the artificial limb, and was able to control the prosthesis with his thoughts.  A realization of The LifeHand Project at the Università "Campus Bio-medico" Roma (Italy), the system involves neural interfaces implanted in the median and ulnar arm nerves, which then connect the patient’s brain with a biomechatronic prosthesis equipped with five independent fingers.
