While physicians use UV treatment for specific skin disorders such as psoriasis, using a sunbed to improve a skin condition will only cause more long-term damage, the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) warns.

While physicians use UV treatment for specific skin disorders such as psoriasis, using a sunbed to improve a skin condition will only cause more long-term damage, the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) warns.

Nina Goad from BAD said: "Using a sunbed is not the way to tackle a skin disorder – in fact, doing so just puts you at greater risk of developing skin cancer.

"Sunbeds not only increase the risk of skin cancer but also lead to skin aging, such as wrinkles and a leathery complexion. In this respect, they will worsen your skin in the long-term, not improve it."

A recent survey conducted for the Sun Awareness campaign in the UK found that 56 per cent of participants found people with a tan more attractive, with 91 per cent believing that fashion influences people's sunbathing habits.

According to the experts, the findings worryingly suggest that many people are willing to risk skin cancer for the sake of their looks.ADNFCR-1506-ID-18692071-ADNFCR
