The Mercury: Cystic fibrosis project's $18,000 boost.

Professor Sylvia Kirov and Dr David Reid were awarded $18,000 for their project looking at lung infection in cystic fibrosis patients. The RHH Research Foundation yesterday announced the recipients of its major grants at the Hotel Grand Chancellor. Seventeen major medical and health-care research projects were awarded a total of $200,000.

Seventeen major medical and health-care research projects were awarded a total of $200,000. "The grant is fantastic and will help a lot," Professor Kirov said. "The reason that people die from these infections is that the organisms have actually become resistant to the antibiotics that they are given and the drugs don't work as well.
