Methamphetamine Overdose Deaths Rise Sharply Nationwide

A recent study suggests that methamphetamine overdose deaths are increasing sharply across America, finding the biggest increase among American Indians and Alaska Natives. 

Methamphetamine overdose deaths surged in an eight-year period in the United States, according to a study that will be published in JAMA Psychiatry. The analysis revealed rapid rises across all racial and ethnic groups, but American Indians and Alaska Natives had the highest death rates overall. The research was conducted at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the National Institutes of Health.

Researchers at The Wistar Institute have discovered a new enzymatic function of the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) protein EBNA1, a critical factor in EBV’s ability to transform human cells and cause cancer.
