Washington University (US) scientists successfully deploy a novel photothermal treatment of tumors.

A team of scientists at Washington University (Missouri, USA), has successfully deployed a novel photothermal treatment of tumors, in a lab animal model.  The team utilized gold nanocages that that, after injected, selectively accumulate in tumors. Subsequently, the tumors are exposed to laser light, causing the nanocages to convert the light to heat, killing the malignant cells.
