Singapore starts own task force to research H5N1 strain of bird

SINGAPORE: Singapore has started its own task force to research into the H5N1 strain of the bird flu virus which has claimed lives in Asia. Drawing from Singapore's experience with the SARS virus, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan says conducting early research on the virus will greatly improve efforts to control a potential outbreak.

SINGAPORE: Singapore has started its own task force to research into the H5N1 strain of the bird flu virus which has claimed lives in Asia. Drawing from Singapore's experience with the SARS virus, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan says conducting early research on the virus will greatly improve efforts to control a potential outbreak. Singapore's rapid response to the SARS outbreak was due to its early efforts to develop life sciences research here. Soon after the outbreak, the Genome Institute managed to develop a method to detect the SARS virus.
