Beijing gives media peek at area of first outbreak

LATEST CASES China: Seven new outbreaks were confirmed in Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangdong and Yunnan. Laos: A new outbreak was confirmed on a farm in southern Champassak province. Taiwan: Two new outbreaks of the less virulent H5N2 strain in two farms. US: The mild H7 strain was found in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Taiwan: Two new outbreaks of the less virulent H5N2 strain in two farms. US: The mild H7 strain was found in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The Chinese media were gunning for maximum publicity. So were Beijing officials who accompanied reporters to southern Guangxi province where bird flu was first reported. They kept stressing the government's efforts to open up.
