German researchers have found that regular consumption of white tea, the least processed variety of tea and containing potent concentrations of phytochemicals, may help to prevent obesity and encourage weight loss.  Researchers exposed laboratory-grown human fat cells (adipocytes) to an extract of white tea. They found that exposure to the tea extract caused a decrease in activity among the genes associated with new adipocyte formation, and promoted fat breakdown as well.
